Atti di un congresso tenutosi all’università di Porto, 22-23 marzo 2013 che instaura un confronto su modelli di santità, a partire da come si costruisce l’immagine di un santo nel Medioevo. L’analisi è stata costruita sulla base di sermoni esistenti e vite agiografiche. In questi si è analizzato il catalogo delle virtù incarnate dai santi presi in esame per registrarne i mutamenti nei temi e negli spazi in cui le fonti furono redatte e soprattutto utilizzate. Sono così emerse affinità tra santi di epoche e aree diverse, funzioni politiche o ecclesiologiche comuni. Ne scaturisce un delicato mosaico che mette in luce l’intricato gioco di rappresentazione e autorappresentazione messo in atto dai membri dei diversi ordini religiosi nel corso degli ultimi secoli dell’età di mezzo.

The book contains the acts of a congress held in the Universitg of Oporto, 2013, March 22nd-23rd. Moving from the ways for constructing the image of a saint in the Middle Ages, it presents a comparison of models of sanctity. The analysis has been built mainly on the basis of existing sermons. There, the canon of virtues embodied by each saint the considered saints has been highlighted. Each scholar was requested of a record on changes in themes and spaces where the sources were written and abbove all used. Several similarities among saints of different times and geographical areas have been put on focus, such as common political and ecclesiological functions. The result is a strong portrait of the delicate play of representation and self-representation of various Religious Orders during the last centuries of the Middle Ages.
