Description

The first solo exhibition in Germany by Delcy Morelos presents a new, large-scale installation at Hamburger Bahnhof that explores themes of earth, Indigenous knowledge, regeneration and the interconnectedness of nature and humanity. The work, Madre, which directly engages with the form, light, climate, sound and atmosphere of the exhibition space, dialogues with the actions, sculptures and environments of Joseph Beuys, which are on view concurrently in the permanent collection. Colombian artist Morelos is renowned for her sensorially rich, immersive sculptures and installations made from materials such as soil, clay, grass, cinnamon, and cloves. Her artistic practice, spanning drawing, painting, sculpture and installation, engages with the colonial legacy and the cosmologies of the Americas. Morelos describes her art as a weaving together of materials, elements, and knowledge.
This is the thirteenth in a series of publications accompanying solo exhibitions of contemporary artists at Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart. In addition to exhibition views and images of artworks, it comprises a curatorial introduction by Catherine Nichols, an extensive interview by Humberto Moro with Delcy Morelos as well as an essay by Filipa Ramos.

Die erste Einzelausstellung in Deutschland von Delcy Morelos präsentiert im Hamburger Bahnhof eine neue, raumgreifende Installation, die sich mit den Themen Erde, indigenes Wissen, Regeneration und der Verbundenheit von Natur und Mensch befasst. Das unmittelbar auf Form, Licht, Klima, Klang und Atmosphäre des Ausstellungsraumes bezogene Werk Madre setzt sich mit den Aktionen, Skulpturen und Environments von Joseph Beuys auseinander, die parallel in der Dauerausstellung zu sehen sind. Die kolumbianische Künstlerin ist für ihre sinnlich erfahrbaren, immersiven Skulpturen und Installationen aus Materialien wie Erde, Lehm, Gras, Zimt und Nelken bekannt. Sie entwickelt ihren künstlerischen Prozess, der Zeichnung, Malerei, Skulptur und Installation umfasst, in der Auseinandersetzung mit dem kolonialen Erbe und den Kosmologien der Amerikas. Morelos beschreibt ihre Kunst als ein Verweben von Materialien, Elementen und Wissen.
Dies ist die dreizehnte Ausgabe einer Reihe von Begleitpublikationen zu Einzelausstellungen zeitgenössischer Künstler*innen im Hamburger Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart. Neben Ausstellungsansichten und Werkabbildungen enthält sie eine kuratorische Einführung von Catherine Nichols, ein umfangreiches Interview von Humberto Moro mit Delcy Morelos sowie ein Essay von Filipa Ramos.
